Know Your Cryptos ("KYC") is an educational mobile game developed and published by Donald Gervais.
This Privacy Policy explains what information KYC collects, how that information is used and stored, and the choices available to users.
KYC is a general-audience educational application and is not specifically directed to children under 13.
1. Information collected by the KYC mobile app
Guest users
KYC can be used without creating an account.
When you play as a guest, game progress is stored locally on your device. Guest progress is not automatically uploaded to the cloud.
If you later sign in and choose to associate eligible guest progress with an account, that progress may be transferred to your account and stored using Firebase.
Account information
KYC offers optional account access using Google Sign-In or Sign in with Apple. Firebase Authentication is used to support the account authentication system.
When you create or use an account, KYC and its authentication services may process information including:
- your email address
- a unique account identifier
- your chosen KYC username
Depending on the sign-in method selected, Apple, Google, and Firebase may process information necessary to provide authentication, account security, fraud prevention, and abuse protection.
KYC does not allow users to upload personal profile photographs.
Player avatars are selected or generated from non-personal illustrated avatar styles within the app, such as robot or illustrated character designs.
Game progress and activity
For signed-in users, KYC stores game progress in Firebase so that progress can be associated with the player's account and synchronized when appropriate.
This includes information shown in the KYC Progress system, including:
- KYC Tokens
- Brains
- correct answers
- accuracy
- streak information
- questions answered
- blocks completed
- category performance
- game-mode progress
- gameplay activity
- other statistics displayed by the app's Progress features
This information is used to provide gameplay, progression, account synchronization, statistics, rewards, and related KYC features.
2. Progress synchronization
KYC may compare progress stored locally on a device with progress stored in the cloud.
If the two versions have progressed separately, KYC may detect a progress fork and display a resolution screen.
The user can review the available device and cloud progress and choose which version should become the primary account progress.
The selected version is then used to resolve the discrepancy.
Because the user makes this choice, users should review the displayed progress carefully before confirming which version should be retained.
3. Leaderboard information
KYC includes a leaderboard displaying the top 50 players.
The following information may be visible to other KYC users through the leaderboard:
- username
- KYC avatar
- total KYC Tokens
- leaderboard rank
Email addresses and other private account information are not displayed on the leaderboard.
4. How information is used
Information collected by KYC is used only as needed to operate and support the application, including to:
- authenticate users
- maintain player accounts
- save and synchronize progress
- provide gameplay statistics
- provide progression and rewards
- display leaderboard rankings
- support account and data management
- maintain the integrity and security of account functionality
KYC does not use personal information for behavioral advertising or user profiling.
5. Third-party services
KYC uses third-party services for optional account authentication and cloud storage. Depending on the sign-in method selected, authentication may involve Apple or Google. Firebase Authentication supports the account system, and Firebase/Firestore is used for cloud-based account and progress storage.
These services may process information necessary to provide their authentication, storage, security, and infrastructure functions.
KYC does not use:
- third-party analytics platforms
- crash-reporting or diagnostics platforms
- push-notification services
- location services
- contact access
- camera access
- microphone access
- photo-library access
KYC does not require access to those device features.
If KYC's use of third-party services or device permissions changes in the future, this Privacy Policy will be reviewed and updated as appropriate.
6. Advertising and monetization
KYC does not display third-party advertising.
The developer has not finalized all future monetization features for KYC.
If advertising, subscriptions, in-app purchases, or other monetization features are introduced in the future and those changes affect how information is collected, used, or shared, this Privacy Policy and the applicable app-store privacy disclosures will be reviewed and updated before or when those changes are introduced as required.
KYC Tokens and Brains are in-game rewards only.
They are not cryptocurrency, have no monetary value, and cannot be bought, sold, or traded as cryptocurrency or financial assets.
7. Data sharing and sale
KYC does not sell users' personal information.
Information may be processed by Apple, Google, and/or Firebase as necessary to provide the sign-in method selected by the user, account functionality, cloud storage, synchronization, and related technical services.
Information may also be disclosed when required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect the security, rights, or integrity of KYC and its users.
8. Account and data deletion
Users may delete their KYC account from within the application.
When an account is deleted through KYC, the user's associated:
- KYC username
- account information
- cloud-stored game progress
are deleted from Firebase.
Users who cannot access the application or who need assistance with an account or data-deletion request may contact:
When requesting assistance, please provide enough information to identify the KYC account involved.
Additional information may be requested when necessary to verify that the request concerns the correct account.
9. Data retention
KYC retains signed-in account and gameplay information while the account remains active and the information is needed to provide KYC's account, synchronization, progression, leaderboard, and gameplay features.
When a user deletes a KYC account through the application, the associated KYC account information, username, and cloud-stored progress are deleted from Firebase.
Guest progress stored locally may remain on the user's device until it is cleared through the application, removed as part of normal operating-system or application behavior, or the application itself is removed.
10. Children's privacy
KYC is a general-audience educational game and is not specifically directed to children under 13.
KYC does not knowingly design its account services for the purpose of collecting personal information from children under 13.
If the developer becomes aware that information requiring removal under applicable children's privacy law has been collected improperly, appropriate steps will be taken to remove that information.
Parents or guardians with privacy concerns may contact:
